LUCKNOW: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharji on Wednesday asserted that the opposition Indian bloc is in a strong position after the four-phase Lok Sabha polls and the people are ready to bid adieu to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He also said that elections were to protect the constitution and asked why PM Modi is not taking action against those who advocate constitutional amendment.
“Four rounds of voting have been completed in the country. The Indian bloc is in a very strong position. We can confidently say that the people are ready to bid farewell to Narendra Modi. The Indian bloc has formed the Indian bloc. A new government will be formed on June 4,” he said at a joint press conference with Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav.
He insisted that the Bharatiya Janata Party will amend the constitution if it comes to power again.
“These people are trying to change the constitution. RSS leader Mohan Bhagawat was the first to say so. In Karnataka, it was said that changing the constitution requires a two-thirds majority. Uttar… In Pradesh, so many people in the Bharatiya Janata Party are talking about changing the constitution,” Kharge said.
He asked why Prime Minister Modi is not taking any action against those who are talking about constitutional reform.
“I am surprised that PM Modi has remained silent on this matter. You are talking about strength and 56 inch chest, so why don’t you scare them out of the party? Something that is against the Constitution You shouldn’t say that,” he added.
Mr Kharge said Parliament had enacted laws to ensure food provision to the poor.
“If the Indian bloc government is formed, it will provide 10 kg of free food to the poor every month,” he added.
Addressing a rally, Yadav claimed that the alliance will win 79 out of 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
