‘They need to do a lot…’: Misbah-ul-Haq says Pakistan are mentally blocked while playing against India in World Cup

The United States of America (USA) is preparing to host the first-ever T20 World Cup as co-hosts with the West Indies. Fans are looking forward to the exciting match between India and Pakistan on June 9th in Nassau County, New York. The Asian giants have locked horns seven times in the history of the T20 World Cup, but India lost only once. In 2021, the tournament was held in the UAE. The Men in Blue will look to continue their winning streak when they take on their arch-rivals on American soil next month.

Ahead of the much-awaited contest, former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq said it will be difficult for the men in green to overtake India in the high-profile tournament. Speaking on the Star Sports Press Room program, Misbah opined that there seems to be a “mental block” for Pakistan to play against India at an ICC event.

“When we play against India in the World Cup, we call it Pakistan’s jinx or mental block. Pakistan is a very skilled Indian team with a strong bowling team and two good spinners, so there are a lot of We will need to do something,” Misbah said.

“India has quality fast bowlers like (Jasprit) Bumrah, (Mohammad) Siraj and Hardik (Pandya). The quality of the Indian cricket team has improved many times over. It’s going to be difficult and the mental attitude is very important and Australia will deal with the mental side in the best way possible.

“There is no excess baggage pressure with Australia. We need to see how both India and Pakistan deal with that pressure,” he added.

Misbah said Virat Kohli, who played some memorable knocks against his home country, will be a big threat again despite there being considerable debate over his strike rate in the ongoing IPL .

“Kohli will be a big factor. He has caused Pakistan damage time and time again. He enjoys an edge against Pakistan mentally. He gets his motivation from big moments, not pressure. ,” he said.

“There will definitely be a Virat Kohli effect. He is a top-class cricketer. He is one of those players who can win matches and it doesn’t matter what the strike rate is. Great players don’t like those voices and criticisms. Get your motivation from,” he added.
