Beyond cricket, Virat Kohli has influenced the world of sports like no other in the past decade, even leading to cricket’s inclusion in the Olympic program for the Los Angeles 2028 Games. And with India’s batting icon’s unquenchable thirst for runs, it’s only natural for fans and pundits to wonder what keeps him going.

“It’s very simple,” said Kohli, 35. “As sportsmen, I think our careers come to an end. So I’m just working backwards. I don’t go through my career thinking, ‘Oh, what would have happened if I had done this that day?’ I don’t want to finish it. I can’t keep going forever, so it’s important to avoid leaving any unfinished work and avoid regrets later.”
Kohli also hinted that once he retires from cricket, he will take a long break before thinking about what’s next.
