Veteran actor Farida Jalal Recently, Jalal took a trip down memory lane and reflected on her journey in Bollywood. She spoke about the roles she wanted to play but never got, while also pointing out that many other actresses from her era were forced to take on typecast roles. However, today, Jalal has no regrets, feels she has given it her all, and is happy to see actors of today getting the opportunities that weren’t available to them decades ago.

Jalal said that at that time, his male contemporaries had a much wider range of acting, even in character roles. India Today“My male co-stars like Anupam Kher, Amrish Puri and Om Puri not only played father roles but also comedians and villains. We women actors were not given such roles. I am tired of it. People say that my delivery, voice and so on are very good. But where are they taking advantage of that? I just want to say,Should I change my name?“I may be dying to show it to them, but who’s going to give me a chance? It’s not just me, a lot of unique artists like me are being hired.”
She continued, “We are keen to show people that side of us. But should I produce my own films to play the roles I want to play? Even if I were to become a producer and do that, I would only be ridiculed and laughed at. So I would never do that.”
Jalal also said she is happy to see that OTT platforms are giving such opportunities to women actors today. “If you watch OTT today, you see a lot of actors who are not limited to playing only mother roles. They can do so much more now,” she said.
Farida Jalal was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s OTT space Heera MandiShe played the role of Taha Shah’s grandmother in the series.
