Aishwarya Rai’s ‘Kajra Re’, which also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek, was arguably a huge hit long before the outrage trend. Now, for your weekend treat, a video has emerged of actress Anushka Sharma recreating the iconic moment. This popular dance number is from Bunty Aur Babli, the 2005 smash heist comedy directed by Shaad Ali and also starring Rani Mukerji.
Nostalgic Moments
With catchy lyrics, an uplifting tune and sultry choreography, the song continues to have a cult following. Several celebrities have tried to recreate the popular number and now a video of Anushka doing the same has surfaced online and is winning hearts.
In a video posted on Reddit, Anushka can be seen singing Kajra Re at an awards function. Her look is reminiscent of Aishwarya in the song, with striking earrings, maang tika and kohl on her eyes. She is wearing a lehenga choli.
The Reddit user who posted it called it “iconic,” but not everyone seemed to agree. One person wrote, “This is more iconic,” over a GIF of Virat Kohli dancing. Another wrote, “I danced at an awards show before I met Kohli and thought she didn’t look good on a black woman.” “I love her and her movies but she can’t dance,” one user commented. “The steps are perfect and she’s so pretty,” commented another user who liked her performance.
About the song
Khajra Reh is a hit song from Bunty Aur Babli. Aishwarya made history with her cameo in the film. She danced in a special number with her now husband Abhishek and father-in-law Amitabh. The song was composed by Shankar Ehsaan Roy. The grace and expressiveness she brought to her dance moves made the song legendary.
Earlier, on Bunty Aur Babli’s 19th birthday, Amitabh took to X and reposted a picture from Kajra Re, in which Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya are seen doing the hook step together, and wrote in the caption, “This song is very popular and still garners attention and love. And the best moment of this song ‘Bhaiyu’ is when we performed it live on stage (namaste and laughing with tears emoji).”
Bunty Aur Babli was produced by Yash Raj Films. Varun V. Sharma directed a sequel in 2022 starring Rani, Saif Ali Khan (replacing Abhishek in the role of Bunty), Siddhant Chaturvedi, Sharvari Wagh and Pankaj Tripathi, but it was a box office failure.
