On Friday, 3AI Holding and Seetha Mahalaxmi Healthcare (SML) launched Hanooman AI, an Indian large-scale language model (LLM) designed with India’s demographics in mind. The AI model was first unveiled at an event held in Mumbai on February 21st.
Hanooman AI boasts support for 12 Indian languages and a total of 98 global languages, and also has text translation capabilities. Currently, the Hanooman AI platform is available for free to all users, but the company plans to introduce a premium version with a paid subscription in the future.
Hanooman, the official handle of the AI platform, wrote on X (previously known as Twitter), “Hello to Hanooman, India’s unique generative AI that effortlessly breaks language barriers! Experience the magic of seamless communication in your preferred language. Whether it’s Hindi, Tamil, Bengali or any other language, Hanuman has you covered.”
It’s worth noting that the company makes its chatbot accessible through both a web client and an Android app, both of which are currently working.
Hanooman AI is packed with features designed to address a variety of important sectors, including healthcare, governance, financial services, and education. With strong support for 12 Indian languages and a total of 98 global languages, Hanooman AI allows users to communicate in their native language and provides a seamless experience across diverse linguistic backgrounds. Global languages supported by AI include English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese, Russian, Chinese, and more.
In terms of functionality, chatbots offer a similar range of functionality as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. You can answer questions, generate texts, share recipes, have conversations, and more. Although the company did not provide specific details such as the size of the training data or the parameters used in the AI model, it did explain that Hanooman integrates a specialized LLM with a unified synthesis matrix. This enables the delivery of clear and adaptive insights, making it easy to seamlessly transform complex data into actionable intelligence.
During testing, we found Hanooman AI to perform reasonably well on basic text-based generative AI tasks. However, it is important to note that it is not multimodal and does not have internet access. Therefore, it cannot process or generate images or provide real-time information. When we inquired about that knowledge, Hanooman AI indicated that his data deadline was April 10, 2022.
Users have the option to interact with Hanooman AI in different languages. In experiments using English and Hindi, we found that the responses were quite on point. However, I haven’t tried other languages, so your experience may vary.
Nevertheless, like any generative AI, the Hanooman AI is expected to improve over time as it continues to learn.
