CHANDIGARH: In preparation for the May 25 Lok Sabha elections and Haryana Karnal Assembly by-elections, the Haryana Police has deployed over 35,000 personnel and 90 police officers to ensure a peaceful and fair voting environment. Strategic checkpoints:
Elaborate plans have been put in place to ensure voters can exercise their right to vote freely, without intimidation or coercion. With an extensive network of 20,606 polling stations located at 10,343 locations, effective security measures are in place to ensure smooth voting. Of these polling stations, 1,362 of her 3,033 polling stations were identified as critical. A further 51 polling stations are reported to be vulnerable and require increased security measures.
Enhanced monitoring:
To strengthen vigilance, a network of 130 interstate and 170 intrastate checkpoints has been established, complemented by 418 flying units, 415 static surveillance teams, and 34 rapid response teams. Additionally, 1,039 patrol troops were mobilized to maintain law and order and ensure peaceful elections, while diligently adhering to the model code of conduct.
Protection of election assets:
Haryana Armed Police and Indian Reserve Battalion personnel have been tasked with safeguarding the integrity of the designated 91 strong rooms in collaboration with central forces. Strict measures have also been taken to regulate licensed firearms and more than 1,14,667 out of 133,513 licensed weapons are kept safe. In addition, 339 firearms were seized and 1,202 weapons licenses were revoked for violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
Mr. Kapoor highlighted the efforts of the Haryana Police to conduct the Lok Sabha elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner. He said almost all preparations to maintain law and order in the state have been completed.
