Tanzania: The Pharmaceutical Society of Tanzania (PST) has recommended former Minister of Health and Kigamboni Member of Parliament, Dr Fastin Ndugurire, for the position of WHO Regional Director for Africa.
A statement released by PST on Tuesday said Dr Ndugurire was recommended for the post due to his vast experience and track record in the field of healthcare both in Tanzania and globally.
According to the statement, Dr Ndugurire has been instrumental in driving the ratification of the African Medicines Agency, facilitating the manufacturing of medicines and health commodities, fighting antimicrobial resistance and building sustainable health systems.

“We are confident that Dr Ndugurile will provide the much needed leadership to the WHO Regional Office for Africa to advance Africa’s self-sufficiency in the production of vaccines and health supplies, as well as address the critical challenges of antimicrobials and substandard medicines on the continent,” the statement read in part.
However, the PST called on African member states to come together and show their support for Dr Ndugurire.
