Latest news on Rajya Sabha elections: Sonia Gandhi, a former Congress president and seven-time member of Parliament, has stakes worth around Rs 26.83 billion as per the current market value of inherited residential properties in Italy. Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday filed her nomination from Rajasthan for the Rajya Sabha polls.
According to the affidavit, before the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, her stake in the property was worth Rs 19.9 million. Gandhi’s 2019 poll affidavit also mentioned an inherited residential property in Italy, but did not mention its market value.
Other details of the affidavit
According to poll affidavits, Sonia Gandhi has cash of Rs 90,000 crore, while her total assets are valued at around Rs 12.53 billion. This includes all personal and real property she owns. The total assets of Congress leaders increased gradually over the years.
Sonia Gandhi’s wealth soared by 574.18 percent between 2009 and 2014 to Rs 9.28 billion. Her wealth increased to Rs 11.82 billion in 2019 and further increased to Rs 12.53 billion in 2024. Her net worth grew by about 27.59% from 2014 to 2019 and grew by about 5.89% from 2019 to 2024.
The movable assets worth around Rs 6.38 billion include jewellery, royalties from Oxford University, investments, bonds, bank deposits and cash in hand. The jewelery contains 1.3 kg gold (worth Rs 49.95 million) and 88 kg silver (worth Rs 57.2 million) and is valued at Rs 1.07 billion.

Sonia Gandhi bids farewell to Congress bastion Rae Bareli
This time, Sonia Gandhi did not contest the Lok Sabha elections from Rae Bareli due to health and age-related concerns. Ms Gandhi, who has represented the Lok Sabha constituency since 2004, said in a letter to her constituents that after the death of her husband Rajiv Gandhi and her mother-in-law Indira Gandhi, the Lok Sabha constituency・After coming to Sabah, he recalled how the people welcomed him.
“Our family roots in Rae Bareli are very deep. You will continue to support me and my family in the future as you have in the past,” she said. She further said that she “will not contest the Lok Sabha elections in view of my health condition and age”.
“Although I will not have the opportunity to serve you directly after this decision, my heart and soul will always be with you. I know that you will support me and my family in the future as you have always done.” I am aware of this,” the letter continued.
According to media reports, Sonia Gandhi is likely to cede the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
